In addition to being Canada’s national symbol, the North American beaver (castor canadensis) is the largest rodent in North America. Beavers are herbivorous and live a semi-aquatic life. They are primarily nocturnal and spend their daytime in lodges built using tree branches, rocks, and mud. In addition to building their own homes, they are known for their industriousness in building dams to restrict water flow. You can find more information about beavers here and here and here.
The beavers below were photographed in eastern Ontario, including Ottawa, Lanark County, Leeds & Grenville County, and Algonquin Provincial Park. Click on image for full-screen view. Select prints available at my Etsy Shop.
